457 visa holders made redundant
DIAC has published FAQ - Subclass 457 Visa Holders Affected by the Economic Downturn.
457 visa holders are subject to Condition 8107 which states that they must not cease to be employed by the employer in relation to which the visa was granted.
If 457 visa holders lose their jobs, they have three options which must be done within 28 days of their employment ceasing:
- Find another employer who is willing to sponsor you and apply for another Subclass 457 visa to work for that new employer.
- Apply for another type of substantive visa that you may be eligible for. For example, if you want to study, a student visa, or if you want to have a holiday before returning home, a visitor visa.
- Leave Australia
