1. English language proficiency
All applicants are required to provide evidence of a standard of English language proficiency required for teaching in Australia by meeting one of the following criteria:
• completed at least one year full-time higher education level study for an initial teacher education qualification in Australia, Canada, Ireland, New Zealand, the United Kingdom or the United States of America; or
• obtained a score of seven (7.0) or more in each component of the Academic version of the International English Language Testing System (IELTS) examination. These results must have been obtained within the 12 months prior to submitting a skills assessment application and the required scores must appear on a single IELTS Test Report Form.
Additionally, applicants are advised that Teaching Australia reserves the right to ask an applicant to take the Academic IELTS Test if there is uncertainty about their level of English language proficiency.
2. Professional
As part of the educational criterion, the applicant's initial teacher education qualification must contain at least 45 days of supervised teaching practice in their nominated occupation.
