July Changes
The Australian Government has yesterday officially released and implemented the new Skilled Occupation List (SOL) for the General Skilled Migration (GSM) program.
The new SOL consists of four schedules, with schedule 3 being applicable for those who have not yet lodged an application with DIAC (as at 1 July 2010).
PLEASE NOTE: The new Skilled Occupation List does NOT affect the eligibility of those applicants who have already lodged an application with the Department of Immigration and Citizenship (DIAC)
New SOL: http://www.immi.gov.au/employers/_pdf/asco-anzsco-sol-correlations.pdf
- Schedule 1: This list applies to all General Skilled Migration (GSM) visa applications made before the 1July 2010 and uses the occupations listed with ACSO codes
- Schedule 2: This list is for people who are subject to the transitional arrangements. As applications made after 1 July 2010 must be in terms of ANSZCO, this list shows the ANZSCO occupations and their correlated ASCO occupations.
- Schedule 3: This list applies to all General Skilled Migration (GSM) applications lodged from 1 July 2010.
- Schedule 4: This is the list that your occupation must be on for a State or Territory Government to be able to sponsor you for applications under subclasses 176, 475, 487 and 886.
In summary, to be able to lodge a skilled visa application with DIAC after the 1 July 2010, your occupation has to be on Schedule 3. If you are State or Territory sponsored, your application only needs to be on Schedule 4.
This gives hope to those applicants with skilled occupations such as Cooks and Hairdressers, which have been removed from the SOL (Schedule 3). If a State or Territory has Cook or Hairdresser on their Off List you may still be able to apply for a Skilled Visa using the State or Territory as your sponsor.
