Visa Processing Times
General Skilled Migration Visas
As you may be aware the Australian Government annouced that, in response to the economic slowdown, the intake for General Skilled Migration Visas for the July 2009 to July 2010 program year will be 108,100 places. As a result, priority processing has been implemented and are being processed according to the following order:
- Employer Sponsorship.
- State or Territory Sponsorship > further information click here.
- an occupation on the Critical Skills List (CSL).
- an occupation on the Migration Occupation in Demand List (MODL).
- all other application in date of lodgement order.
How are you affected?
If your application does not fall into Groups 1-3 this means that no further processing can be done on your application until all applications in Groups 1-3 have been finalised. Your application is still valid but a longer waiting period for your application to be processed will occur.
Based on current application rates it is likely, at this stage, that applications which fall in Groups 1-3 will exhaust the 2009-10 Migration Program year and processing of Groups 4 and 5 will be delayed until Groups 1-3 have been finalised (irrespective of the date your Group 4-5 application was submitted).
Contributory Parent Visas
The Family Migration Program will be increased after 01 July '09 with an additional 1,000 places for Contributory Parent Visas. We expect processing times for Contributory Parent Visa applications to take between 15-18 months from lodgement.
