Why use a Registered Migration Agent?

Australian migration rules are complex and subject to frequent changes. Consulting a Registered Migration Agent will make the whole process of applying for a visa easier and more effective. Careful assessment before lodging an application will save you time and effort and potentially, a lot of money.

When you deal with a competent, experienced and honest migration agent, you maximise your chance of a successful outcome. A responsible agent will assess the circumstances of each individual and their family and ensure that the correct visa category is chosen. The agent will monitor the application through its assessment process with the relevant government processing office, minimising delays and immediately complying with requests for further documentation.

Australian Registered Agents are accountable for their actions to the Migration Agent’s Registration Authority (MARA). Any agent who does not adhere to the MARA Code of Conduct, is dishonest or incompetent, can have their registration cancelled.

A valuable second protection is assured if the agent is also registered with the Migration Institute of Australia (MIA), a professional body which is recognised by the Australian Department of Immigration. The MIA has their own Code of Conduct which all members must abide by.

There are a number of aspects that all clients should consider before choosing an agent to represent them.

Firstly, always get a second opinion as to your eligibility status for migration. Ask the agent about their registration criteria, their experience and their fees and payment arrangements. Insist on a written contract that includes details of the services being provided by the agent and the fee and payment schedule.

Remember, if you deal with an unregistered agent, you are taking a risk.
